About podcasts and videostreaming
Podcasts
Podcasts are video or audio files you can download to your iPod, computer, or other device. Many Colorín Colorado programs are available for download as either a video or audio podcast. Please note that a 20-minute video clip is about a 46MB file — this will take awhile to download, even if you have a broadband connection.
Colorín Colorado podcasts are available from the following:
- Google Video
The easiest way to watch and download Colorín Colorado video podcasts is through Google Video. Go to video.google.com and search for "Colorin Colorado" to see what's available. You can watch immediately or download the video to a Windows or Mac computer, Video iPod, or Sony PSP.
- iTunes
Colorín Colorado audio podcasts are available through iTunes. Download the iTunes player and search for "Colorín Colorado". When "Meet the Author" comes up, click on the arrow next to "clean" to see all of our audio podcasts. You can subscribe to Colorín Colorado podcasts, which means that new ones will automatically be made available to you as they are released.
- OMN
The Open Media Network (OMN) is public broadcasting's digital distribution service. OMN offers the highest quality downloads of all the services. First, download the OMN player. Then click on the "Guide" tab and put "reading" in the search box to find all of Colorín Colorado' podcasts, both audio and video. You can get a "season ticket" to Colorín Colorado podcasts, which means that new ones will automatically be made available to you as they are released.
Videostreaming
Many people want to watch a program online without downloading it. This is called videostreaming. The advantage of videostreaming is that it's very quick — the video plays immediately on your computer. The quality of videostreaming is not as good as podcast downloads, however, and you can't save the file for later viewing or put the file on a portable media device.
Videostreaming links are provided throughout the Colorín Colorado web site so you can watch online. The video will appear in Windows Media Player which most PC computers already have installed. Macintosh users can download the free Flip4Mac playback file, which allows you to play Windows Media files in your QuickTime player.
I love your site. I am an ESOL teacher and can't wait to share this site with other educators.
