Meet the Artists
¡Colorín Colorado! is extremely grateful to the following artists for the illustrations they contributed for our e-cards.
David Diaz
David Diaz was awarded the 1995 Caldecott Medal for the bold and intricate illustrations he created for Smoky Night, written by Eve Bunting. Among his other books are Wilma Unlimited: How Wilma Rudolph Became the World's Fastest Woman and The Pot that Juan Built. David Diaz also designed the beautiful illustrations for ¡Colorín Colorado!
Maya Christina Gonzalez
Maya Christina Gonzalez is an award-winning artist and children's book illustrator. Widely exhibited, Maya's artwork is known for its vivid imagery of strong women and girls. Maya has created artwork for nearly a dozen children's books, including Nana's Big Surprise / Nana, ¡Que Sorpesa!, written by Amada Irma Pérez. Her paintings have been called "breathtaking" by the Horn Book Magazine, who says her illustrations "blaze with color and capture both the hilariously mundane details of life…and the imagination's terrain." Maya's illustrations have broadened the acceptance of, and love for, children's books by and about Latinos. Maya lives and plays in San Francisco, California. You can learn more about her at www.mayagonzalez.com.
Pat Schories
Pat Schories spent her childhood outdoors in the woods and fields of Ohio where she grew up. She spent her time indoors reading and making art. Pat is probably best known as the illustrator of the Biscuit books written by Alyssa Satin Capucilli. She is now using her story-telling skills to create new books starring Jack and his family. Jack and Biscuit are modeled after her own two beloved dogs, Speed and Spike.

I am currently working towards my teacher certification by lateral entry and needed information on the Hispanic aspect of education. Our ESL teacher at my elementary school directed me to our school's ELL website. You are a link off that page. What a world of information I found!!! I ended up reading more than I needed to know, saved some of the books for children for my future reference, and kept a few other things as resources for me for later on. I was so impressed that I wanted to complement you on how easy to use yet in-depth your site is. I will check here often just to see what you have; very, very, very impressive!! Thanks so much!
